Join Us in Building Community Through Music.

Choir instructor

Who You Are

You're a fun, social, and charismatic leader who knows how to guide a group of 60 amateur singers and genuinely enjoys it. You teach by example, confidently demonstrating harmonies and vocal technique rather than just explaining them. You're comfortable conducting and have the discipline to follow our season plan, keeping rehearsals on track so your choir is ready to perform on time.

You speak fluent English, love meeting new people, and you're excited to be part of an international community. You're happy to follow our rehearsal structure and standards, so every choir in the network feels consistent no matter who's leading it.

The IEC Network

International English Choirs is more than a collection of individual choirs. We're building regional networks of community choirs that work together as one large musical community.

Rather than operating independently, choirs in a region share instructors, accompanists, singers, equipment, and concert opportunities. This allows us to create larger performances, support one another when needed, and offer singers a richer musical experience.

To make that possible, every choir in a region follows the same yearly repertoire and the same rehearsal structure. That means instructors can seamlessly cover rehearsals, singers can join combined performances, and every choir progresses together throughout the year.

Meanwhile, each choir's Committee takes care of venue management, administration, and community-building. Your focus is simple: arrive prepared, deliver a great rehearsal, and help every choir move forward together.

piano accompanist

Freelance Piano Accompanist

IEC is seeking pianists to accompany our community-based choirs. This flexible role is ideal for musicians balancing professional commitments or talented hobbyists looking to apply their skills in a meaningful way.

About the Role

IEC choirs are community-based rather than performance-driven. Pianists accompany non-audition choirs, where most music is taught by ear. You should be able to play simple pop arrangements consistently, so choir members can depend on you week to week. You'll also need to play individual voice parts to help singers learn their lines. Patience and a willingness to work in a community-based environment are essential.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand instructions and scheduling in English

  • Ability to collaborate with instructors and prioritize fun over perfection

  • The ability to play simple pop piano accompaniments

  • Ability to play 2 vocal parts at the same time

  • Patience and understanding to prioritize the member experience over musical perfection

This is a freelance position with a flexible schedule. If you meet the qualifications and are interested in joining IEC, we encourage you to apply!
