IEC Community Choirs

Our community choirs are founded on a simple principle: community comes first. This philosophy shapes every decision we make. Each choir elects its own committee, which organises monthly social activities and ensures every member has a voice in shaping the group’s direction. The music we sing is suggested and voted on by members, so our repertoire truly reflects the tastes and interests of the people who sing it.

We are community-based rather than performance-driven, meaning we value the member experience above musical perfection. There are no auditions, anyone is welcome to join. Rehearsals are conducted in English, and our choirs currently include members from more than 60 countries, alongside many local singers. This rich mix of backgrounds not only makes our music more vibrant, but also fosters one of our most important values: cultural exchange.

Community first

Our choirs are adult social groups open to anyone aged 16 and over. We meet once a week from 6–8 pm, beginning each rehearsal with a group warm-up and a short lesson on basic singing and music skills. All new songs are taught during rehearsals, and we also provide learning materials so you can practice at home if you wish. Beyond the music, we organise optional monthly social activities such as drinks, hiking, picnics, or karaoke. We perform at local city festivals throughout the year, and once a year all the choirs in Hessen come together for a regional concert with a live rock band.
